In the Unity of the Faith

Jesus Christ leads His Church through apostles and prophets

Paul and other Apostles baptizing and confirming new Church members.

Jesus’s Apostles preached His gospel in many countries. People who believed the gospel were baptized. The Apostle Paul wanted everyone to feel welcome in the Savior’s Church, even if they were from different places.

Matthew 28:19–20; Ephesians 2:19

Jesus with people gathered all around Him.

Paul wrote a letter to the Saints in Ephesus. He said that when Jesus died for us, it was like He broke down a wall that separated God’s children. No matter where they came from, they weren’t strangers anymore. They could receive the gospel and be part of the “household of God,” like one big family!

Ephesians 2:11–19

Jesus teaching a group of children, with the cornerstone of a building in the foreground.

Paul said that the Church is like a strong building. Buildings need a solid foundation. The most important stone in the foundation is the chief cornerstone. All of the other stones line up to the cornerstone. Jesus Christ is the chief cornerstone of His Church.

Ephesians 2:20

Images of people teaching, ministering, and sharing the gospel.

The rest of the foundation of the Church is the prophets and apostles, who bear testimony of Jesus Christ. The Lord also invites all of us to help build His Church—by teaching, by ministering, by sharing the gospel, and in many other ways.

Ephesians 2:20; 4:11–12

A group of children coming together in unity.

The Church is needed, Paul said, to help every person know Jesus Christ. The Church of Jesus Christ is on the earth today, with a firm foundation of Jesus Christ and His prophets and apostles. Through His Church, we can grow “in the unity of the faith” and become more like Jesus.
