Jesus Heals a Centurion’s Servant

A Roman leader shows great faith

A centurion with his soldiers.

A centurion lived in Capernaum, a town where Jesus often taught. He was the leader of a large group of soldiers.

Luke 7:1–2

The centurion’s servant is very sick.

This centurion had a servant who was very special to him. The servant became sick and was going to die.

Luke 7:2

The centurion  asks some Jewish leaders to find Jesus.

Even though the centurion was not a Jew, he had heard of Jesus. He believed that Jesus had power to do great miracles. He sent some leaders of the Jews to ask Jesus to come and heal his servant.

Luke 7:3–4

Some people tell Jesus not to go to the centurion’s house.

The leaders told Jesus about the centurion and his servant. They said that this centurion was kind to the Jews. Jesus started walking toward the centurion’s house. But before He got there, some friends of the centurion stopped Jesus. They told Him not to come into the house.

Luke 7:4–6

People tell Jesus that the centurion does not feel worthy.

The friends said that the centurion did not feel worthy to have Jesus in his house. He believed that Jesus could heal his servant even from far away!

Luke 7:6–8

Jesus says that the centurion has great faith.

Jesus was amazed by the faith of the centurion. He said that He had not seen such great faith.

Luke 7:9

The centurion’s servant is healed.

When the centurion’s friends got back to his house, the servant was completely healed. Jesus had healed him, just as the centurion believed He could.
