Jesus Heals a Woman and Raises Jairus’s Daughter

“Be not afraid, only believe”

Jairus with his wife and daughter.

A man named Jairus lived with his wife and daughter in a town near the Sea of Galilee. Jairus was a leader at the synagogue, where the Jews went to worship God.

Mark 5:22

Jairus’s daughter gets very sick.

Jairus’s daughter, who was only 12 years old, got very sick. She was about to die. Jairus knew she needed help. He also knew that Jesus was in their town.

Mark 5:22–23

Jairus asks Jesus to heal his daughter.

Jairus left his home and found Jesus. He knelt at Jesus’s feet and asked Him to come heal his daughter. Jairus knew that if Jesus blessed his daughter, she would live. Jesus followed Jairus to his home. Crowds of people followed Him.

Mark 5:23–24

A woman in the crowd wants to be healed by Jesus.

A woman in the same town also needed Jesus’s help. She had been very sick for 12 years. She had spent all her money on doctors, but no one could heal her—she just got worse. She knew that Jesus could heal her. But how would she get to Him through the crowd?

Mark 5:25–27

Jesus Heals Woman Raises Jairus' Daughter

The woman believed that if she could just touch Jesus’s clothes, she would be healed. She reached for Jesus as He walked by. As soon as she touched the edge of His robes, her sickness was healed.

Jesus asks who had touched Him.

Right away, Jesus stopped walking. He had felt power go out of Him. “Who touched me?” He asked. His disciples were confused. Many people had touched Him—they were surrounded by people. Jesus looked around to see who had touched Him.

Mark 5:30–32; Luke 8:45

Jesus tells the woman to go in peace.

Jesus saw the woman who had touched His clothes. She told Jesus about her sickness, and that Jesus had healed her. Jesus told her to be comforted. She was healed because of her faith in Him. “Go in peace,” He said to her.

Mark 5:33–34; Luke 8:47–48

Jairus learns that his daughter has died.

Then a man came from Jairus’s house. He said that it was too late: Jairus’s daughter had already died. Jairus shouldn’t bother Jesus anymore.

Mark 5:35

Jesus tells Jairus to believe in Him.

As soon as Jesus heard this, He told Jairus, “Be not afraid, only believe.” Then they went to Jairus’s house.

Mark 5:36–38

Jesus tells Jairus’s daughter to arise.

Jairus and his wife led Jesus to where their daughter lay. Jesus took the girl’s hand and said to her, “Arise.”

Mark 5:41

Jairus’s daughter is alive again.

Immediately, Jairus’s daughter got up from her bed. She was not dead anymore! Jesus asked Jairus and his wife to get her something to eat. They were amazed at what Jesus did for their daughter. He asked them not to tell other people about this miracle.
