Jesus Appears to Saul
An invitation to repent and follow the Lord
Saul was a Pharisee—a leader of the Jews who knew the scriptures well. But Saul did not believe that Jesus was the Savior. He often put followers of Jesus in prison. One day Saul traveled to a city called Damascus to arrest some of Jesus’s followers and take them to Jerusalem to be punished.
As Saul traveled, suddenly a light shined down on him. It was brighter than the sun. Saul fell to the ground. He heard a voice saying, “Saul, Saul.” Then the voice asked Saul why he was fighting against Jesus and hurting His disciples.
Saul asked who was speaking. The voice said, “I am Jesus.” Saul was scared and surprised. He asked Jesus what he should do. Jesus told Saul, “Arise, and go into the city.” There he would learn what he should do next.
Saul obeyed and stood up. But he was blind now. He could not see anything. The people who traveled with him led him into the city of Damascus. For three days, Saul did not eat or drink anything.
One of Jesus’s disciples who lived in Damascus was Ananias. Jesus visited Ananias in a vision and told him to go and help Saul.
But Ananias was confused. He had heard of Saul. He knew how much Saul had fought against Jesus’s disciples.
Jesus asked Ananias to help Saul anyway. Jesus said that He had chosen Saul to take His gospel to many people who were not Jewish and did not know about Him.
Ananias obeyed Jesus. He found Saul and gave him a blessing. Ananias called him “Brother Saul.”
Ananias said that Jesus had sent him so that Saul could be healed and be filled with the Holy Ghost. Right away, Saul could see again.
Saul got baptized. Then he taught everyone in the city about Jesus Christ. The people were amazed that Saul had changed so much. For the rest of his life, Saul was called Paul. He taught all people, Jews and many others, to believe in Jesus. Paul became an Apostle of Jesus Christ.
