Jesus Calms the Storm

Even the wind and sea obey Him

Jesus and His disciples in a boat.

One day, Jesus and His disciples were traveling in a boat on the Sea of Galilee. The wind began to blow very hard. Waves started crashing into the boat, filling it with water. Jesus, however, was peacefully asleep.

Matthew 8:23–24

The disciples wake up Jesus.

The disciples were afraid. They woke Jesus up. “Lord, save us,” they cried. They thought they were going to drown in the sea.

Mathew 8:25

Jesus commands the water to be still.

“Why are ye fearful?” Jesus asked. He told the disciples that they needed to have more faith. Then He stood up and said to the wind and waves, “Peace, be still.”

Suddenly the storm stopped, and the sea was calm. Jesus and the disciples were safe. Jesus’s disciples were amazed. They wondered what kind of person could command the wind and sea, and they obey Him!
