Jesus Heals a Man Who Could Not Walk

Physical and spiritual healing

Jesus teaching in a house full of people.

Many people wanted to hear Jesus teach. One day He was teaching in a house full of people.

Mark 2:1–2

People carrying a man to be healed by Jesus.

Four people came to the house with a friend who could not walk. They had to carry him on a bed. They wanted to bring their friend to Jesus, but the house was so crowded, they couldn’t get in.

Mark 2:3–4

People lowering the man into the house.

So they carried their friend to the roof of the house. They removed part of the roof and lowered their friend and his bed into the house, in the middle of the crowd, in front of Jesus.

Mark 2:4

Jesus forgiving the man.

When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the man who could not walk, “Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.”

Mark 2:5

Some of the Jewish leaders are upset.

Some leaders of the Jews, when they heard this, were upset. They thought that only God could forgive sins.

Mark 2:6–7

The man is healed and stands up.

Jesus knew what they were thinking. To help them understand that He did have power to forgive sins, He did a miracle. He told the man who could not walk, “Arise, take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.” The man stood up and walked! Everyone was amazed and gave thanks to God.
