The Whole Armor of God
Staying spiritually safe
Paul taught the Saints in Ephesus that we are all in a spiritual battle against evil. Just like soldiers who put on armor to keep their bodies safe, we can wear the spiritual armor of God to keep our spirits safe.
Paul compared the armor of a soldier to things that protect us spiritually. For example, he said that truth is like a girdle or belt around our waist.
Next, Paul said that righteousness is like a breastplate that protects our heart.
Jesus Christ’s gospel of peace is like the shoes we wear to protect our feet.
Our faith in Jesus Christ is like a shield that protects us from Satan, just as a shield protects soldiers from their enemies’ arrows.
Paul said that salvation is like a helmet that keeps our heads and minds safe.
Finally, Paul said that the Spirit and the word of God are like a sword.
When we put on every piece of the armor of God, we can stand bravely against the devil’s lies and temptations. God gave us this armor to help us keep our spirits safe and strong.
