Jesus Is Baptized

Setting an example of obedience to God

God called John to help people prepare for Jesus Christ to come. John taught people to repent and be baptized. People called him John the Baptist.

Matthew 3:1–12

Jesus coming to John to be baptized.

John was a powerful teacher. Many people came to hear him and be baptized. One day, Jesus came to be baptized.

John knew that Jesus always obeyed God. He didn’t need to repent. John didn’t think he should baptize Jesus. John thought Jesus should baptize him!

Jesus said that He also needed to be baptized. He wanted to obey all His Father’s commandments. He also wanted to set an example for us. John baptized Him.

Matthew 3:13–15; 2 Nephi 31:5–7

Jesus is baptized. The Holy Ghost descends.

After Jesus came out of the water, the Holy Ghost came down on Him like a dove. Heavenly Father spoke from heaven, saying, “This is my beloved Son.” Heavenly Father was very happy with Jesus.
