Nathanael knew that the scriptures said God would send a Savior. Philip told him that he had found the Savior—His name was Jesus, from Nazareth.

John 1:45

Philip inviting Nathanael to come and see Jesus.

At first Nathanael didn’t believe him. He didn’t think the Savior could be from Nazareth. “Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth?” he asked. Philip answered, “Come and see.”

John 1:46

Jesus greeting Nathanael.

Nathanael went with Philip to meet Jesus. When Jesus saw them coming, He said that Nathanael was a good and honest man. Nathanael was surprised. He had never met Jesus before. How did Jesus know him?

John 1:47–48

Jesus talking with Nathanael.

Jesus told Nathanael that before Philip talked to him, Jesus had seen him sitting under a fig tree.

John 1:48

Now Nathanael knew that Jesus was the Son of God. Jesus told Nathanael he would see great things—like angels coming out of heaven—all because of his faith.
