The Boy Jesus
Learning and growing
Jesus grew up in the town of Nazareth with Mary and Joseph. Over time, He learned more and more about Heavenly Father. He prepared for the work Heavenly Father wanted Him to do.
Luke 2:39–40; Doctrine and Covenants 93:12–14
When Jesus was 12 years old, He went to Jerusalem with family and friends to celebrate the Passover. They stayed there for several days.
On the way home, Joseph and Mary noticed that Jesus was not with them. They went back to Jerusalem to look for Him. They were very worried.
After searching for three days, Mary and Joseph finally found Jesus. He was in the temple, talking with some teachers about the scriptures. The teachers were asking Him questions. They were amazed at how much Jesus knew and understood!
Luke 2:46–47; see also the Joseph Smith Translation in footnote 46c
Mary told Jesus how worried they were when they couldn’t find Him. Jesus said that He was doing His Heavenly Father’s work. Jesus went back to Nazareth with His family. He obeyed Mary and Joseph.
Jesus kept learning. He grew bigger and stronger. Heavenly Father loved Him and helped Him prepare for His mission. Jesus loved the people around Him, and they loved Him.
