Children of Light

Believing in Jesus Christ while we wait for Him to come again

Paul writing a letter to people in Thessalonica.

The Saints in Paul’s time were excited for the day when Jesus Christ would come to the earth again. In a place called Thessalonica, life was getting hard for the Saints. They wondered if this meant Jesus would be coming very soon. Paul wrote letters to help them.

1 Thessalonians 4:16–18; 5:1–2; 2 Thessalonians 1:4

A family sleeping.

Paul said that no one knows when Jesus will come again. It will be a surprise to some people, like a thief coming in the night while they are asleep.

1 Thessalonians 5:2–3; 2 Thessalonians 2:2

A happy family sitting together in the bright light of an oil lamp.

But Paul told the Saints that they were not in darkness. Because they followed Jesus Christ, the Saints were children of light!

1 Thessalonians 5:4–5

The happy family sharing the gospel with another family.

Paul explained that before Jesus comes again, many people would turn away from the truth. He wanted the Saints, the children of light, to keep following Jesus and keep looking forward to His coming. If we do this, no matter what is happening in the world, we will be ready when Jesus returns.
