Paul and Silas
Rescued by miracles from the Lord
The Lord called Paul and Silas to preach the gospel together. They traveled to many cities to see how the churches there were doing.
One night, in a vision, Paul saw a man from Macedonia asking him to come to his city. Paul and Silas left right away. They knew God wanted them to go.
When they got to Macedonia, a woman named Lydia heard them teaching. The Lord opened Lydia’s heart. She believed what Paul taught and was baptized.
Lydia told Paul and Silas that they could stay in her house while they were there.
But not everyone liked that Paul and Silas were there. Some people did not like what they were teaching. They took Paul and Silas to the marketplace and told the leaders of the city that they were causing trouble.
The people were angry with Paul and Silas. The leaders of the city tore Paul’s and Silas’s clothes and said they should be beaten.
Then the leaders of the city threw Paul and Silas into prison. They bound their feet and set a guard over them.
That night, Paul and Silas prayed and sang hymns to God while the other prisoners listened. Suddenly, the ground began to shake. The prison doors opened, and the bands were loosed.
The guard woke up and saw the open doors. He thought the prisoners had escaped and that he would be in trouble for letting them escape. Paul told the guard not to worry. The prisoners were all still there.
The guard was afraid. He knelt by Paul and Silas and said, “What must I do to be saved?” They said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Paul and Silas taught the guard and his family the gospel. The guard cared for Paul’s and Silas’s wounds. That night, he and his family were baptized!
