Rescued by miracles from the Lord

The Lord called Paul and Silas to preach the gospel together. They traveled to many cities to see how the churches there were doing.

Acts 15:40–41; 16:4–8

Paul has a vision.

One night, in a vision, Paul saw a man from Macedonia asking him to come to his city. Paul and Silas left right away. They knew God wanted them to go.

Acts 16:9–10

Paul and Silas preach to a woman named Lydia.

When they got to Macedonia, a woman named Lydia heard them teaching. The Lord opened Lydia’s heart. She believed what Paul taught and was baptized.

Acts 16:13–15

Lydia tells Paul and Silas that they can stay at her home.

Lydia told Paul and Silas that they could stay in her house while they were there.

Acts 16:15

People take Paul and Silas to the marketplace.

But not everyone liked that Paul and Silas were there. Some people did not like what they were teaching. They took Paul and Silas to the marketplace and told the leaders of the city that they were causing trouble.

Acts 16:16–21

People are angry with Paul and Silas.

The people were angry with Paul and Silas. The leaders of the city tore Paul’s and Silas’s clothes and said they should be beaten.

Acts 16:22–23

Then the leaders of the city threw Paul and Silas into prison. They bound their feet and set a guard over them.

Acts 16:23–24

Paul and Silas’s prison bands are loosed.

That night, Paul and Silas prayed and sang hymns to God while the other prisoners listened. Suddenly, the ground began to shake. The prison doors opened, and the bands were loosed.

Acts 16:25–26

Paul tells the guard not to worry.

The guard woke up and saw the open doors. He thought the prisoners had escaped and that he would be in trouble for letting them escape. Paul told the guard not to worry. The prisoners were all still there.

Acts 16:27–28

Paul tells the guard to believe in Jesus Christ.

The guard was afraid. He knelt by Paul and Silas and said, “What must I do to be saved?” They said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Acts 16:27–31

Paul and Silas teach the gospel to the guard and his family.

Paul and Silas taught the guard and his family the gospel. The guard cared for Paul’s and Silas’s wounds. That night, he and his family were baptized!
