An Angel Frees Peter from Prison

God answers prayers

Peter being put in prison.

A king named Herod did not like Christians. He put to death the Apostle James. Then he put Peter in prison. He placed 16 soldiers to guard the prison.

Acts 12:1–4

People praying for Peter.

When the members of the Church heard this, they prayed and prayed to Heavenly Father for Peter.

Acts 12:5

Peter sleeping in prison.

One night, Peter was asleep. He was bound with two chains between two soldiers.

Acts 12:6

An angel appears to Peter.

Suddenly, a light shined in the prison, and an angel appeared. “Arise up quickly,” the angel said, and the chains fell from Peter’s hands. The angel told Peter to follow him.

Acts 12:7–8

The angel leads Peter past the guards.

Peter thought he was dreaming. He followed the angel past the guards. The iron gate that led to the city opened by itself, and Peter and the angel walked through it.

Acts 12:9–10

Peter walks alone in the city.

The angel left, and Peter realized he wasn’t dreaming. He knew the Lord had sent the angel to save him.

Acts 12:10–11

Peter knocks on the door of Mary’s home.

Peter went to the home of a woman named Mary, where many Church members had come to pray. He knocked on the door.

Acts 12:12–13

Rhoda hears Peter’s voice behind the door.

A girl named Rhoda came to the door. When she heard Peter’s voice, she was so happy! She ran to tell the others.

Acts 12:13–14

Rhoda tells the Church members that Peter is at the door.

When Rhoda told everyone that Peter was at the door, they didn’t believe her. Peter kept knocking.

Acts 12:15–16

Peter tells the Church members that the Lord brought him out of prison.

Finally, they opened the door and saw that it was true. Peter was safe! The Lord had answered their prayers. Peter told everyone how the Lord had brought him out of prison.
