Angels Visit Mary and Joseph
Chosen to care for the Son of God
A woman named Mary lived in the town of Nazareth. She loved God and obeyed His commandments. Mary was going to get married to a man named Joseph, who also loved God.
One day, an angel named Gabriel visited Mary. At first, Mary was scared. But Gabriel said that he was sent from God. Mary did not have to be afraid. He said that Mary was very special to God and would soon have a baby. Mary’s child would be God’s Son, Jesus.
But Mary was confused. She was not married to Joseph yet. How could she have a child? Gabriel explained that it would happen through God’s power. He told her, “With God nothing shall be impossible.”
Mary was humble and faithful. She told Gabriel that she was the Lord’s servant. She was willing to be the mother of God’s Son.
When Joseph found out that Mary was going to have a baby, he was troubled. He wondered if he should still get married to Mary.
But one night in a dream, the angel visited Joseph. The angel told Joseph that Mary’s child was the Son of God and Joseph should name Him Jesus. Jesus would save all people from their sins. The angel said Joseph should still get married to Mary.
Joseph did what the angel said. Joseph and Mary got married.
Mary went to visit her cousin Elisabeth. The angel told Mary that Elisabeth was also pregnant, even though she was very old. This was another miracle from God. Her son would grow up to be John the Baptist. When Mary entered the house, she greeted Elisabeth.
As soon as Elisabeth heard Mary, Elisabeth’s baby jumped for joy inside her. Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost. She knew Mary was carrying the Son of God. Mary rejoiced with Elisabeth. She praised God for all the wonderful things He does to bless His children.
