Sharing My Testimony in a Boxing Video

young man

I chose to share the gospel in a final project for my 12th-grade English class. My teacher had asked us to write and present a convincing speech on something we’re passionate about. We were given lots of liberty on what to speak on and how to present it.

I chose to speak on how we can overcome all adversity through God and through Christ’s atoning sacrifice. I also wanted to blend that with something else I love—boxing. I have always enjoyed training and fighting through the years. I find joy in becoming better. Sometimes, however, I get hit, and it hurts. I fall and I can’t get up.

I decided to film a motivational video where I compare life to a boxing match. I did a voice-over of my speech. I spoke about how in life, sometimes we’re going to metaphorically get punched in the face; we’re going to be too tired to go on; we’ll doubt our capabilities and wonder if it’s even worth trying. I testified that our Father in Heaven has a plan for all of us—through Christ we can overcome all opposition. I truly know that without Christ, I am nothing, but because of Him, I can achieve things I never could have imagined!

I really worked hard to make sure the cinematography, the message, and above all my testimony truly conveyed what I felt in my heart.

Before I presented my project to my class, I felt a bit nervous. Unfortunately the world teaches us that many Christian values are old-fashioned and no longer important. I was concerned with how this might affect my grade or what my peers might think. But I had received a confirmation that this was something really good! It wasn’t just about getting a good grade—it was about testifying of what I knew to be true.

As I showed the video to the class, I again felt this was something my Heavenly Father wanted me to do. When the video ended, to my surprise everyone started clapping. People passed me notes on what they thought about my project. Many of these notes said things like “Glory to God” or “God is good.” Many of my classmates told me that they had felt something really special as they watched my video.

When I received my grade, I was excited to see that I had gotten full marks. My teacher thanked me for my testimony and for the time I took to display it in the way I did.

I testify that we live in troubling times—the world is calling good evil and evil good. But there is still so much more good than evil! I know that as we bravely and boldly share our beliefs and bear our testimonies, not only will we be blessed, but we’ll see the lives of others around us blessed as well.
