Everything Improves When You Trust in God

When you trust in Heavenly Father, you will be able to face whatever you’re going through.

I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since I was eight years old. A few months after my baptism, my family and I drifted away from the Church.

Years later, when we decided to start coming back, the COVID-19 pandemic struck, and church meetings started happening remotely. Once again, I found myself drifting away, facing numerous challenges along the way.

Difficulties and Doubts

During this time, I began to doubt the truthfulness of the gospel, my testimony, and who Jesus Christ was. At one point, I even questioned His existence and started thinking I was atheist. My heart was hard and cold like a stone of ice.

That phase of my life was incredibly difficult and complex. I think it’s because when we stop believing in Jesus Christ and His power, our lives lose meaning and become miserable.

Seminary Changed Me

Eventually, my father influenced me to start attending church again. I did this even though I was still confused and dealing with multiple questions.

One day at church, I saw a poster about seminary. This sparked an interest in me. I approached my bishop to ask him about it. He immediately added me to the seminary group chat and told me it started at 5:30 a.m.

So, I started attending seminary. This helped me make new friends and ultimately gain a testimony of the Church and the scriptures. I had a teacher who really encouraged my class and brought out the best in us. I discovered that studying the scriptures truly allows us to know the Savior. There’s a difference between hearing someone’s testimony and seeking your own through study and faith.

10 Tips to Become a Disciple of Christ

Initially, I knew about Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ through what others told me. But we can’t always rely solely on the testimonies of others. We need to seek to know the Savior for ourselves.

We need to make time for the Savior and for divine things so we can become one of His disciples. I’ve learned that you come to know Him when you:

  1. Intentionally seek Him.

  2. Read the scriptures.

  3. Strive to improve spiritually.

  4. Pray to Heavenly Father.

  5. Attend the temple.

  6. Serve others.

  7. Fast.

  8. Follow His example.

  9. Have a good heart.

  10. Refuse to speak ill or gossip about others.

These things helped me know the Savior—and become one of His disciples. Being a disciple of Jesus Christ is very important because we can use His light to help others. Through our good examples, others can see how much of a blessing the gospel is.

Things Will Get Better

When I returned to church, I was at rock bottom—full of doubts, without friends, without hope, not knowing who I truly was or what my purpose was.

Now, the gospel is the “flame” that has illuminated my life and helps me to do the right things and become a better person. Without the gospel, I don’t know where I would be.

Everything improves in life when you trust in God. From the moment you seek Him, you’ll start to climb out of the pit and things will begin to improve. Of course, adversities will still come, but this trust and desire to believe will gradually lift you. It may take time, but things will get better!

When you trust in Heavenly Father, you will be able to face whatever you’re going through—whether that’s challenges, doubts, health problems, or loneliness. For example, you might achieve good grades on a test, improve your health, or receive answers—sometimes answers you’ve been seeking since you were 10 years old, as was my case—if you seek Him and trust in Him.

I’m certain of these things. Thanks to the gospel, I can say that I’ve changed. Actually, everything has changed—my heart, thoughts, behaviors, and principles. I now know the truth, and that makes all the difference. Everything has improved because of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
