My Holy Week Challenge

I’m so glad I accepted my seminary teacher’s invitation.

When my seminary teacher invited us to study five names or titles of Jesus Christ during Holy Week last year, I was excited.

I chose titles to study and read the scriptures associated with them. Then I researched the titles online to learn their historical context.

One title I studied was “Carpenter,” since Jesus may have learned this trade from Joseph. I learned that carpenters are associated with restoration and repair—like how Christ can restore and repair us. That idea kept coming up in other titles.

For example, as I researched “Prince of Peace,” I discovered that the Hebrew word for peace, shalom, implies wholeness, harmony, well-being, and restoration. I feel like that perfectly encapsulates how, through His atoning sacrifice and our repentance, Christ healed the separation from Heavenly Father caused by our sins. Because of the events of Easter, our Prince of Peace can be with us and make us whole.

Around this time, I was facing challenges and felt like I had nobody to lean on. I’d backed away from my relationship with Jesus Christ because I thought I had to help myself. But this study helped me realize that my problems weren’t mine to bear alone. Christ was there to take on the burden. As soon as I let Him help me, I felt peace. I know that Jesus Christ can restore every part of my life if I allow Him to.

As you take the time to study Jesus Christ’s life and attributes, you’ll realize that He’s always there for you. When I chose to spend time with Him and get to know Him more, I could see my worth in His eyes. I felt His love for me in every title I studied.
