From Skill Acquisition to Liberation: Mitchell Okolie’s Journey

Meet Mitchell Okolie from Lagos, Nigeria—a dedicated member of the Agege Stake YSA Gathering Place who has always been eager to acquire new skills to become self-sufficient. Recently, he participated in a skills-acquisition class organized by the young single adults at the Gathering Place, where he learned the art of barbering.

With newfound confidence and skills, Mitchell wasted no time in starting his practice. He began offering barbering services to his friends and fellow members of his ward and stake YSA. His exceptional skills quickly gained attention, and soon he was in high demand.

President Tosin Okunaiya, second counselor of Agege Stake presidency, was among those who benefited from Mitchell’s services. “I’m impressed with Mitchell’s skills,” President Okunaiya said. “He’s talented and dedicated.”

Other satisfied clients included Benjamin Ocran and Tega Adeghe of the Abule Egba Ward, as well as Joshua and David of the Meiran Ward. Mitchell’s services also extended to members of his community, who appreciated his professionalism and attention to detail.

Mitchell’s testimony is a testament to the impact of the skills acquisition program. “This skill has liberated me from the shackles of unemployment,” he said. “I can now provide for some of my needs and even save towards my future goals.”

Mitchell’s ultimate goal is to open his own barbering salon. He has already started saving and is determined to make his dream a reality. The YSA organization and the Gathering Place can take pride in empowering young members like Mitchell Okolie, who are turning their skills into successful ventures.
