5 Ways to Love Like Jesus Did
One of the last things Jesus Christ said to His friends before His Atonement was “as I have loved you, … love one another” (John 13:34). That commandment is for us too! Here are five ways you can love others like He did.
Love Your Neighbor
The Savior taught that the first two commandments are to love God and love your neighbor as yourself (see Matthew 22:37–40). Who is your neighbor? Everyone!
When you’re trying to love someone better, remember Jesus. Try to think of them as a child of God and treat them how you would like to be treated.
Love Your Enemies
Jesus Christ gave His life for everyone, even people who hated Him. He showed the greatest love ever.
When someone is mean, remember Jesus. You can stand up for yourself kindly or ask a trusted grown-up for help. Try giving the person a smile or praying for them. They might not change, but showing love will change your heart.
Love People Who Feel Left Out
Did you know Jesus Christ spent a lot of His time with people who had been rejected by others? Lots of stories in the Bible tell how He helped sinners and stopped to heal outcasts.
When you see someone who might feel left out, remember Jesus. Try talking to them, inviting them to play, or listening to them.
Love People Who Need Comfort
When the Savior’s friend Lazarus died, He cried with Lazarus’s sisters—even though He was about to raise Lazarus from the dead! (See John 11:32–36.) He showed love by taking time to be sad with people who were sad, not just trying to fix their problem.
When someone is sad, remember Jesus. Try just sitting and being with them, giving a hug, or writing a kind note.
Love People Who Need His Help
Jesus Christ healed the sick and those in need. He also heals people from sin through repentance. We might not be able to heal like He did, but we can still help in His healing work when we serve others.
When someone needs help, remember Jesus—and that we all need His help. Try thinking about the best way to serve them and love them.
