My Hosanna

Each of us has something in our lives that brings us to our knees.

young woman

One of my favorite New Testament chapters talks about Jesus Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The people cried, “Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest” (Matthew 21:9). Whenever I read this, I think: What is my hosanna?

I have had a stutter for my entire life. At times I’ve felt so frustrated and discouraged because I couldn’t express myself the way I wanted to. I’ve wished to either talk perfectly or never talk again. I always worry when I speak in front of others or even when I pray out loud. I have silently pleaded for patience, peace, and help many times. This is one of my personal hosannas—my cry for deliverance.

Just as Christ didn’t ignore the cries of the people in Jerusalem, He has never ignored mine. He hasn’t taken my stutter away, but He has strengthened me in ways I didn’t expect. He has helped me feel peace in moments of anxiety and realize that my voice, flawed as it may be, is enough for Him.

Each of us has something in our lives that brings us to our knees. Sometimes, we may feel that our cries go unanswered. But He hears every hosanna. And in His perfect way and timing, He will come to our aid.

In Gethsemane, Christ suffered for our sins and felt our pains and our struggles. He continues to guide and comfort all who turn to Him and Heavenly Father. The same Christ who suffered for us in Gethsemane and on the cross also rose from the tomb, conquering death so that we might have hope. His Resurrection is the ultimate answer to every hosanna.
