PEF Call Desk Interns: Changing Lives One Call at a Time
When you call the Perpetual Education Fund (PEF) desk in the Africa West Area, you’re not just speaking with a voice on the line—you’re connecting with a team of passionate young professionals who see your success as their mission.
Meet Derrick, Cassandra, Cindy, and Jessica—graduates of universities in Ghana, each serving a one-year national service internship with the Church. Their academic backgrounds span economics, education, family and consumer sciences, and political science, but their shared commitment is simple: to support your educational journey with empathy, accuracy, and heart.
Cassandra shares, “My favorite part of this work is talking to people and helping them reach their goals. Some callers have said, ‘I can’t believe you cared enough to call me,’ or ‘You’ve been an answer to my prayers.’” For her and her team, this isn’t just a job—it’s ministry through connection.
These interns serve potential applicants, current participants, and PEF alumni, answering questions ranging from program changes to financial inquiries. Often, they make calls to check on progress, gather feedback, and ensure that participants feel supported and heard. “We view our callers as our customers,” they said. “And we take pleasure in serving them.”

From Lip Gloss to Launch: How Dorcas Turned a Beauty Class into a Thriving Business
Meet Dorcas Asamoah Danso, a determined young single adult from the Ofankor Stake Gathering Place whose journey from student to entrepreneur is as inspiring as it is beautiful.
It began when she enrolled in a beauty class at the Gathering Place—a decision that would change her life. At first, it was anything but easy. “Shaping eyebrows was the hardest part,” she recalled. “It didn’t feel natural, but my instructor’s encouragement and consistent practice helped me push through.”
Determined to make the most of what she was learning, Dorcas began setting aside money to invest in her own beauty supplies. She didn’t wait for perfection—she got to work. After sharing a simple video on Facebook with before-and-after photos of her makeup transformation, Dorcas caught the attention of her peers. To build her client base, she boldly offered a free trial—and the results spoke for themselves. Her friends not only loved their makeovers but also became her biggest advocates, helping her turn her passion into a growing business.
Dorcas continues to visit the Gathering Place to sharpen her skills and stay connected to a supportive community. “My journey required humility,” she said. “I had to accept correction, stay open-minded, and be willing to sacrifice to reach my goals.”
Today, Dorcas is grateful—for the Lord’s guidance, for her leaders and fellow YSAs, and for the path that helped her discover her potential. Her experience has brought her not just success but confidence, joy, and a deeper sense of self-worth.
Building Faith and a Future: Emmanuel’s Journey from Baptism to Masonry
Meet Emmanuel Amore from the Bo Sierra Leone East Stake—a young man whose journey of transformation began with a simple invitation to church. In 2018 a friend welcomed him to a Sunday meeting, and Emmanuel’s heart was touched. Not long after, he chose to be baptized—a decision that placed the first stone in what would become a deeply personal path of spiritual and personal growth.
Since then, Emmanuel has made the Gathering Place his second home. Whether it’s playing on the sports teams, learning new skills, or diving into institute classes, he shows up with purpose. “I want to succeed both spiritually and temporally,” he says—and he’s putting in the work to make that happen.
A turning point came when Emmanuel noticed his brother learning masonry. Seeing the demand for skilled labor in his community, Emmanuel realized this could be his opportunity to make a difference. He began training, determined to develop a craft that could support his future. Today, he’s applying his growing masonry skills to find work and build something lasting—not just with bricks but with faith.
Emmanuel is still just getting started. His ultimate goal? To grow in personal righteousness and stay anchored in Christ as he builds a meaningful life, one stone—and one choice—at a time.
Building Success Through Connections
Meet Isaac Sani Dadzie from the Bibiani Ghana District—a young man whose determination to serve led him to discover a valuable skill and build a small business along the way.
It started when the young single adults needed a television hooked up in their building. Instead of waiting for outside help, Isaac took it upon himself to learn how to install and configure TVs and networks. What began as a humble effort to help his YSA group quickly grew into something bigger. With practice and persistence, Isaac mastered the process and has since set up multiple systems for others.
Word of his talent began to spread. Through recommendations from satisfied clients, Isaac built a reputation for reliability and skill—and with that, a small business was born. His journey is a powerful reminder that service, curiosity, and faith can open doors to unexpected opportunities.
Recently, Isaac joined fellow young single adults on a visit to the temple, strengthening both his testimony of Jesus Christ and his vision for the future. Whether in a chapel or a career, Isaac is committed to building—one connection at a time.
