Help for Our Heartache

The Atonement of Jesus Christ can help us in all things, even when we’ve been wronged.

When I was pregnant with my fourth child, we needed a new car. I found one online, but I was nervous about such a big purchase. I asked for advice from knowledgeable friends. Everyone told me it was a great choice, so I felt confident.

The car needed to be shipped, so we waited. On the day the car was supposed to arrive, we found out that no car was coming!

We’d been swindled. I was shocked and crushed. Our money was gone.

The following days, all I could do was replay the experience. I was so upset that I struggled to be a good mother and wife. My energy was gone. I hit a breaking point and knew I needed to change. So, I prayed and asked Heavenly Father to take the burden from my shoulders.

After a few hours, I felt lighter. And later, I couldn’t feel the burden anymore. I wasn’t angry or upset. I felt only peace. I realized that this feeling of calm came because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

After a few months, we received a sum of money from a neighborhood organization we belonged to. It was the exact amount we had lost. For us, that was a miracle!

I learned that I don’t need to carry my burdens alone. Jesus Christ knows what I feel. He suffered “pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind” (Alma 7:11). We must let Him into our lives so He can help us.

President Russell M. Nelson (1924–2025) taught: “There is no limit to the Savior’s capacity to help you. His incomprehensible suffering in Gethsemane and on Calvary was for you! His infinite Atonement is for you!”

Jesus Christ wants to help us in our heartache, whatever it is. We are never alone. He is always there for us (see Matthew 28:20).
