As I listened to The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square sing “It Is Well with My Soul” during the April 2025 general conference, the Spirit flooded my heart. It wasn’t just the music—it was the deep reverence and sincerity in the singing that made me feel as if I were standing in the presence of the Savior. I teared up because of the beauty of the music, which reminded me that through Jesus Christ and His Atonement, I can have peace despite my struggles.
As I play hymns for sacrament meeting, I’ve often felt that the music is a form of prayer, a way to invite the Spirit and communicate with God. But hearing this hymn sung so beautifully by the choir, I felt a deeper connection to that truth. It was as if the music, combined with the Spirit, lifted my soul and reminded me of the power of the Savior’s grace in my life.
“For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads” (Doctrine and Covenants 25:12).
This promise feels real to me. Through music, we offer our hearts to the Lord. In return, He fills our souls with hope and peace. As I listened to the hymn, I was reminded that no matter what trials we face—in our personal lives, our relationships, or our struggles with faith—we can have peace through Christ. In those moments, it truly is well with our souls.
This experience has deepened my love for the hymns and the role they play in our spiritual lives. They are not just songs. They are prayers, messages of hope, and ways to invite the Savior’s love into our hearts. I’m grateful for how the power of music can lift and strengthen us, especially when we need it most.
