The Comforter
As I wandered in that valley
Called “The Depths of Deep Despair”
I heard a gentle whisper,
“Child, don’t think I do not care.
But sometimes you must suffer
To help your Spirit grow,
Believe me dearest daughter
I have been there and I know
Of the loneliness and anguish,
Of a life too sorrow-prone,
But, remember precious daughter
You need never be alone.
I will always try to help you,
Your burden I will share
If only you will let me,
just ask and I’ll be there.”
All at once my burden lightened
And my heart began to heal
As I knelt to ask for courage
To endure my cruel ordeal.
Then love and warmth enfolded me
And I went upon my way
With The Comforter beside me
To help me through each day.
