The first baptisms of local converts to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Papua New Guinea took place in 1980. Many people learned about the Church from friends before asking for missionaries to come to their villages and teach them. The first Church building was completed in 1984, and the first stake was organized in 1995. Today, the Church in Papua New Guinea has:

  • 38,700 members (approximately)

  • 2 stakes, 12 districts, 94 wards and branches, 2 missions

  • 1 temple in Port Moresby (announced)

A Personal Savior

Sister Judina Nambai from the Gerehu Branch in Port Moresby says, “A gospel teaching that is important to me is coming to know the Savior Jesus Christ as a personal Savior and following His perfect example.”
