Treasures in Heaven

This month’s study of the Doctrine and Covenants highlights ways that you can “lay up treasures for yourself in heaven” (Doctrine and Covenants 6:27). Pray for Others

Do you know someone who is going through a hard time? Follow the example of Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf and his wife, Harriet, by praying for that person (see page 2). Remember to trust in God’s will, even if the person you pray for doesn’t immediately see the blessings.

Explore Church History Sites

A returned missionary who served at Church history sites in New York and Pennsylvania shares what happened there and why it matters today (see page 12). What places or experiences have been important for your growth as a disciple of Jesus Christ? Consider telling your family or friends about one of these sacred times from your life and why it matters to you.

See Life through an Eternal Perspective

Read the article on page 36 to learn more about how the temple endowment can expand our perspective of God’s plan. What experiences have you had that helped you to gain an eternal perspective—or to think celestial, as President Russell M. Nelson teaches? Consider writing your experiences in a journal or sharing them with family and friends.

The Things of the Most Worth

Doctrine and Covenants 6; 11–16

Invite each family member to show something that is important to them—for example, a photograph, book, or toy—and explain why it is precious to them. Then discuss these questions together:

What does the Lord tell His servants they may “treasure up” if they diligently engage in missionary work? (see Doctrine and Covenants 6:3; 11:3; 12:3; and 14:3).
What does the Lord tell Oliver Cowdery to “treasure up” in Doctrine and Covenants 6:20? What does the Lord say about “treasures” in Doctrine and Covenants 6:27?
In Doctrine and Covenants 15:6 and 16:6, what does the Lord say will be “of the most worth” to those whom He had called to preach the gospel?
What can we do as a family to treasure up heavenly things?
