A Chat with Emily about Baptism
Emily is a 9-year-old from Sinaloa, Mexico. We asked her some questions about her baptism.
Tell us about yourself.
I love painting, drawing, baking desserts, crafting, and dancing and singing with my siblings. I also like to go to my grandfather’s ranch to ride horses.
How did you prepare to be baptized?
During home evening, my parents taught me about faith, repentance, baptism, and the gift of the Holy Ghost. I also prepared by reading the scriptures, praying, and watching videos about Jesus Christ. I especially like the video about the Savior’s baptism in the River Jordan. I love the part when the white dove appears, which represents the Holy Ghost.
My dad and I also practiced how we would stand in the font. I was scared of going under the water, but my dad taught me how to bend my knees, cover my nose, close my eyes, and gently fall back into his arms. We practiced this a lot, and on the day of my baptism, I was able to do it very easily.
What was special about your baptism?
It was an unforgettable day for me. Some of my family members gave talks, said the prayers, and stood as the witnesses. I also sang “When I Am Baptized” with the help of our Primary pianist. After I was baptized, I felt my Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, so close to me. I cried happy tears.
It was also special because I had an idea to invite some of my friends and family members who are not members of the Church to come to my baptism, and they agreed to come. One of my friends who attended still comes to church activities with his parents.
How do you remember your baptism covenants?
I strive to remember my covenants by going to church, taking the sacrament, and remembering the Savior. Knowing that He gave His life for me makes me feel grateful. I also pray daily, read the scriptures, serve others, and strive to be a good person.
To my friends who are about to be baptized, I hope you can grow closer to Heavenly Father and feel His perfect love!
