遠西城聖殿預定地

1838年7月4日，約瑟·斯密在密蘇里州遠西城中心，督導主的一座新屋宇的房角石安置典禮。雖然後期聖徒最終並未建造該聖殿，但四塊房角石依舊留在原處。

在暴徒暴力阻攔聖徒在密蘇里州獨立城建造聖殿後，1833年，後期聖徒將重心放在建造俄亥俄嘉德蘭主的殿。嘉德蘭聖殿於1836年3月27日完工和奉獻。1838年，主命令要在密蘇里州考德威爾郡遠西城中心，建造一座新聖殿。1838年7月4日，在美國獨立紀念日這天，約瑟·斯密在這座日益茁壯的城市中央的公共廣場上，督導房角石安置典禮。在場有數千人親眼目睹這場典禮。

建造聖殿的工作持續不了多久，就因與密蘇里州當地人發生衝突，導致後期聖徒於1838年11月放棄遠西城。大部分聖徒離開幾個月後，十二使徒定額組中的五位成員和其他人為了服從主的命令，於是返回聖殿預定地（見教義和聖約115：11；118：5）。1839年4月26日，使徒們回到聖殿預定地，並按立惠福·伍和喬治·斯密，以遞補前往大不列顛傳教的使徒將出現的定額組空缺。

參觀內容


遠西聖殿預定地有一個以欄杆圍起的紀念碑，以記念此地發生的事件。圍欄區域周邊有洗手間、野餐區和農地。此地沒有訪客中心或傳教士提供導覽，一切自行參觀。請在圍欄區域內找尋聖殿的四塊房角石。訪客通常在此停留約30分鐘。
