1836年4月3日奉獻儀式一週後，有將近一千名後期聖徒齊聚在嘉德蘭聖殿崇拜主。主理聖餐儀式之後，先知約瑟·斯密和奧利佛·考德里到麥基洗德聖職的講壇，拉下帷幔，以保有私密空間。他們低頭作了「莊嚴靜默的禱告」之後，一個異象開啟，耶穌基督與他們會面並宣告他們所建造的屋宇已蒙悅納。隨後，摩西、以利亞和以來加三位使者造訪約瑟與奧利佛。摩西授予他們「聚集以色列的權鑰」（教義和聖約110：11），以利亞授予他們「傳達亞伯拉罕聖約獨特祝福的權利」3，而以來加則授予他們印證的能力，「使父親的心轉向兒女，兒女的轉向父親」（教義和聖約110：15）。

數十年來，基督社區（Community of Christ）保存並照管嘉德蘭聖殿。2024年3月，這個深受喜愛的歷史地標的所有權與管理責任正式轉移到耶穌基督後期聖徒教會。
