Prophetic Witnesses of the Resurrection for When Life Gets Hard

Prophets and apostles, both ancient and modern, have testified of the living, resurrected Savior.

Jesus Christ walking out of the tomb

Life is hard. Hardly a day goes by that we’re not reminded of that fact. But because of the Savior’s triumph over sin and death, each and every one of us will receive the blessings of resurrection and immortality and the opportunity for eternal life. The physical challenges of this life—including pains, limitations, death, weaknesses, chemical imbalances—will be gone forever. Because of Jesus Christ, our hardships can be swallowed up in the joy of Christ (see Alma 31:38).

And prophets and apostles, both ancient and modern, have testified of the Savior’s Resurrection. It is real. Here are just a few of their witnesses:

“I testify of … the reality of His Resurrection and ours.”

—President Dallin H. Oaks, “Resurrection,” Ensign, May 2000, 16.

“I am a witness of the Resurrection of the Lord as surely as if I had been there with the two disciples in the house on Emmaus road. I know that He lives.”

—President Henry B. Eyring, First Counselor in the First Presidency, “Draw Near unto Me,” Liahona, May 2025, 28.

“Under the glance of His all-seeing eye, I stand myself as a witness that Jesus of Nazareth is the resurrected Redeemer, and I testify of all that follows from the fact of His Resurrection. May you receive the conviction and comfort of that same witness.”

—President D. Todd Christofferson, Second Counselor in the First Presidency, “The Resurrection of Jesus Christ,” Liahona, May 2014, 114.

“I witness the complete and absolute truth of the Savior’s incomparable atoning sacrifice and of His glorious Resurrection.”

—Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, “My Mind Caught Hold upon This Thought of Jesus Christ,” Liahona, May 2023, 94.

“My beloved brothers and sisters, in our hour of deepest sorrow, we can receive profound peace from the words of the angel that first Easter morning: ‘He is not here: for he is risen’ [Matthew 28:6]. …

“As one of His special witnesses on earth today, this glorious Easter Sunday, I declare that this is true.”

—President Thomas S. Monson (1927–2018), “He Is Risen!,” Liahona, May 2010, 90.

“In solemnity, and with understanding of the gravity of that which we say, we add our witness to all the world of the reality of the Resurrection, that this same Jesus who rose from the grave ascended into heaven. … This is our testimony, which we bear in the name of Jesus Christ, and we invite all men to hear and accept it.”

—President Gordon B. Hinckley (1910–2008), “The Victory over Death,” Ensign, May 1985, 53.

“I am one of His witnesses, and in a coming day I shall feel the nail marks in His hands and in His feet and shall wet His feet with my tears.

“But I shall not know any better then than I know now that He is God’s Almighty Son, that He is our Savior and Redeemer, and that salvation comes in and through His atoning blood and in no other way.”

—Elder Bruce R. McConkie (1915–85) of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, “The Purifying Power of Gethsemane,” Ensign, May 1985, 11.

“I came to know as a witness more powerful than sight, until I could testify with a surety that defied all doubt, that I knew with every fiber of my soul that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, that He lived, He died, He was resurrected, and today He presides in the heavens.”

—President Harold B. Lee (1899–1973), The Teachings of Harold B. Lee, ed. Clyde J. Williams (1996), 637.

“And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!

“For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father.”

“Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

“And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.”

—John, John 20:19–20.

“This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.”

—Peter, Acts 2:32.

“And then shall ye know that I have seen Jesus, and that he hath talked with me face to face, and that he told me in plain humility, even as a man telleth another in mine own language, concerning these things.”

—Moroni, Ether 12:39.
