What Makes Easter So Special? Love

Christ’s Easter miracle reminds us to truly see what others need.

When I first started learning about the gospel at 28, I had many doubts. There were a lot of principles I didn’t immediately understand or accept.

But what kept me coming back was the people and the genuine love they showed me. I really appreciated how the members received me—always smiling, cheerful, and joyful.

When I wasn’t at church, other members called to check on me. They asked how I was doing and why I hadn’t come. Those small gestures touched my heart.

Because they showed so much love for me, I came to feel that this truly is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Bit by bit, I felt my testimony growing, and I was eventually baptized.

A Symbol of Love

Before I was a follower of Jesus Christ, I wondered why Easter was such a big holiday to some people.

But now I know that Easter is a symbol of love—the love Jesus Christ has for Heavenly Father and for each of us.

Easter shows a deep connection between the Father and the Son. Without the miracle of Jesus Christ’s Atonement and subsequent Resurrection, we would have no way to return to our Heavenly Father. Jesus Christ loved the Father and each of us so much He endured “pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind” (Alma 7:11) so we can return to Heavenly Father.

The central message of Easter is love. We need to love others the way Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love us. Easter reminds us to truly see what others need.

Love more. Forgive more. Serve more.

As President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, shared: “We gather all of God’s children who are willing to be gathered and who seek the truth. It is not our physical appearance, our political views, our culture, or our ethnicity that brings us together. … It is our common objective, our love for God and love for our neighbor, our commitment to Jesus Christ and His restored gospel.”

God doesn’t look at our social status but at who we are as individuals. Knowing this and feeling His love through this beautiful holiday has enabled me to want to share it with others as well.

Sharing Christ’s Love

Now I serve as the elders quorum president, and I have a chance to extend the same love I experienced to other members of my ward.

As a ward, we’ve noticed that when people step away from gospel principles, they face many harmful temptations.

To combat this, our bishop created regular visits where we select a family and go to their home to teach and learn together. These visits are transforming many lives because there’s a spirit of joy and fun. You can see how much people enjoy it by looking in their eyes. It’s something truly praiseworthy, and we’re working hard on it.

My faith grows stronger each day. As I serve others, especially during these visits, I always feel connected to the Savior, who rescued each of us through His willingness to perform His Atonement. When I strive to treat others as He did, He and Heavenly Father teach me and strengthen my faith in return.

Embracing the Easter Miracle

Jesus Christ is my salvation. He gave me the chance to be someone different. He loved me, and He showed me His love. Jesus Christ and His Easter miracle are symbols of love, reverence, salvation, willingness, and humility.

Jesus Christ lives. He acts in our lives through disciples who serve as His loving hands. He was resurrected so we can return to live with our Heavenly Father.

Embrace Him.

Embrace His Easter miracle.

Embrace His love.

And share that perfect love with those around you.
