Overview

Sacrament Meeting

A sacrament meeting is a weekly worship service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is meant to be a sacred and joyful time when Church members, friends, and all interested in learning about the gospel gather with one another and come unto Jesus Christ.

The most important part of sacrament meeting is the sacrament itself. This is the sacred ordinance of partaking of bread and water to remember Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice for us. Through partaking of the sacrament, we covenant that we are willing to take upon us the name of Jesus Christ, always remember Him, and keep His commandments. Taking the sacrament is an important step in receiving forgiveness for our sins when we repent.

During sacrament meeting, we can also:

  • Listen to and give talks about Jesus Christ and His gospel.

  • Participate in a monthly testimony meeting where we testify of the Savior and the restored gospel.

  • Sing worshipful songs.

  • Participate in choirs or small groups to sing other worshipful songs, if desired.

  • Give opening and closing prayers.

Sacrament meetings are typically held on Sundays in Church meetinghouses around the world. For building locations, meeting times, driving directions, or contact information, use the Meetinghouse Locator tool.
