God’s Power Is a Gift!
Adapted from “Live Up to Your Privileges,” Liahona, Nov. 2024, 7–10.
Recently I visited Harmony, Pennsylvania, USA. There, under the maple trees, the priesthood was restored to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery. I also went to the home where Joseph and Emma Smith lived. Inside, I stood at the window and wondered what Emma thought when she looked through that window.
The Lord gave Emma an important message through His prophet, Joseph. We can read this message in Doctrine and Covenants 25.
First, the Lord taught Emma that she had a place in His plan. He reminded her that she was a daughter in His kingdom.
Second, the Lord gave her a purpose. Emma played an important part of the Restoration. She was asked to teach the scriptures and create the first hymnbook!
Last, the Lord taught Emma about her covenants. Keeping covenants would help her feel the Spirit, become better, and receive direction for her life.
My hope is that you will learn how priesthood ordinances and covenant promises will allow God’s power into your life. We can all have access to the gift of God’s power. Every time we partake of the sacrament. Every time we enter the temple.
Music Toss Game
Emma Smith was asked to create the first hymnbook. We still sing hymns today! Take turns tossing a coin or another small item onto the board. When it lands on a picture, think of a song about that topic. Then sing it together!
