“Friendly Dragon,” Friend, July 1989, 22

Friendly Dragon

By Frances Gorman Risser

The train’s a friendly dragon

with a long and switching tail.

He roars around the countryside

upon a silver trail.

A stream of gold and scarlet fire

flames from his one great eye,

And at each crossing, he repeats

his mighty warning cry!
