Dog Dreams

My dog lies sleeping on the floor,

Between the fireplace and the door.

His four paws twitch; he yips and seems

To chase a rabbit in his dreams.

And then when he has slept some more,

He wags his tail and thumps the floor.

I wonder if he dreams that he

Is playing out-of-doors with me?
