Finding Strength and Relief in Jesus Christ: Hannah Miller

2026 Relief Society Devotional: A Worldwide Gathering of Women

I got the call from my sister that I needed to go home so that I could see my dad before he died. Our family approached that day fasting for a miracle, and as soon as we broke our fast, we said our goodbyes to my dad, and he quickly passed away. And even in the moment, I knew that the miracle was that he had relief from his mortal sickness and his challenges. And I think about the hurt that that introduced to our family. But the Lord was so quick to provide us with relief. Most often in the form of dear friends and family that provided so much comfort and companionship during that difficult, difficult time for us.

And as I was thinking about this experience, I studied—I was studying a scripture in the Book of Mormon. It’s Words of Mormon, and verse 17 and 18, it talks about King Benjamin, who has the daunting task of creating peace in a society. And I love what it says. It says, “King Benjamin was a holy man, and he did reign over his people in righteousness; and there were many holy men in the land.” And then later on it says, “With the help of these, king Benjamin, by laboring with all the might of his body [and] the faculty of his whole soul, and also the prophets, did once more establish peace in the land.”

And I think about this phrase “with the help of these” and how often I’ve had these challenges in my life where I could not have done it without the help of holy men and women who are there to sit beside me, mourn with me, comfort me as we stand as witnesses of God. Sometimes our prayers feel mute. They feel like they’re being unanswered, maybe even unheard by the Lord. But I want to bear testimony that those prayers are heard and they’re answered in a way that is perfect. Because the Lord cares about you, He cares about your prayers, He cares about the things that weigh on your mind and heart, He cares about what keeps you up at night. And those answers will come. They will.
