The Hill Cumorah Visitors’ Center and its exhibits connect visitors with the hill’s history and Jesus Christ. They also connect visitors with people worldwide who want to learn more about the Book of Mormon. This is a space for contemplation and learning in connection with exploring the hill itself.
In 1928, driven by the desire to commemorate the sacred events of the Restoration, Willard Bean assisted the Church in purchasing land in New York, including the Sacred Grove and the Hill Cumorah. The Church built and dedicated a bureau of information in 1936 to provide visitors with a place to learn more about the Church’s history in the area. The bureau of information was replaced in 2002 with the current visitors’ center. In a 2025 update, the Hill Cumorah Visitor’s Center introduced new exhibits focusing on Joseph Smith and Moroni’s efforts to bring the Book of Mormon to light by the power of God.
What to Expect
The Hill Cumorah Visitors’ Center is a self-guided experience. Missionaries are available to answer questions and assist with orientation and accommodations. Several original works of art adorn the visitors’ center. There are new oil paintings illustrating the history of the hill. A new multi-figure bronze sculptural piece shows Jesus Christ visiting the Americas. History-based interactive exhibits help guests learn more about church history and the gospel. Visitors can also take part in the Book of Mormon Experience. Here, guests read, highlight, and reflect on a page of scripture that came forth from the hill. Visitors can begin their experience at the visitors’ center or on the hill.
