Planning for a Family Visit to the Missouri Historic Sites

Things to See and Do as a Family

While everyone is welcome everywhere at the Missouri Historic Sites, younger audiences might be especially interested in the following places and activities:

The Independence Visitors’ Center can be an exciting place for kids to learn about the gospel and the history of the Church.
Liberty Jail helps people of all ages learn about the history of the Church in Missouri and the Prophet Joseph Smith’s time in jail.
Adam-ondi-Ahman offers miles of walking paths and hiking trails where families can spend time together.
A family walks together around the fields of the Adam-ondi-Ahman Historic site.

Common Questions

There are baby-changing tables in most of the restrooms at the historic sites. If you’re unable to locate a baby-changing table, please ask a missionary for assistance. 
The Independence Visitors’ Center has family restrooms. All visitors’ centers have standard male and female restrooms, and most restrooms outside of visitors’ centers are individual restrooms, allowing for more privacy.
You are welcome to breastfeed anywhere at the historic sites where you feel comfortable. If you’d like more privacy, please speak to a missionary, who can direct you to a secluded room.
Strollers are allowed in historic buildings. Please be aware that some of the buildings might be difficult to navigate with a stroller. Many of the buildings also have steps at entrances, so you will need to be able to get the stroller over the threshold. 
Stroller parking is available at all visitors’ centers. Please ask a missionary to direct you to the designated area. 
Yes! Visit the Independence Visitors’ Center for a children’s play area and interactive exhibits for youth and children.
