General conference is the worldwide gathering of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Twice a year, during the first weekend of April and the first weekend of October, Church leaders from around the world share messages, or sermons, focused on Jesus Christ and His gospel.
All Are Welcome: We invite everyone of all faiths, beliefs, and backgrounds and from everywhere in the world to watch, listen, and participate.
An Opportunity to Build Faith in the Living Christ: Participating in (watching) general conference helps us learn how we can find peace, hope, and joy through Jesus Christ. We learn how to strengthen our families as we follow Jesus Christ’s teachings and how to receive personal guidance and inspiration from God.
A Global Broadcast: General conference is streamed and broadcast live in about 70 languages and is later translated into more than 100 languages. It consists of five two-hour sessions that you can watch live or on your own schedule.
If you live in the United States or Canada, ask your local stake leaders about tickets. Most stakes have tickets for distribution.
Tickets are distributed this way to provide opportunities to those who may not have attended before. This also helps address individual- and group-sized ticket needs, rather than doing a first come, first served approach or a random ticket request.
If you live outside of the United States or Canada, ask your stake or district president to submit a request for tickets on your behalf.
A standby line will be available outside the Tabernacle on Temple Square for overflow seating as well as potential seating in the Conference Center as available.
Below are a few ideas to consider in your personal or family study or as you prepare to share a message in Church classes or meetings:
· Listen to the Spirit.
· Ask questions and look for answers.
· Record your impressions.
· Apply the message to yourself.
· Look up scriptures or other quoted references.
· Look for specific ideas or thoughts you are concerned about.
· Set a study schedule.
Relief Society and elders quorum classes regularly study the words of Church leaders from recent general conference messages. Think about ways to share personal experiences that apply the principles in the message, or invite others to share their own experiences .
Consider these questions to help you prepare to teach:
· What do I hope members will know and do after discussing this message?
· What does the speaker want members to understand? What gospel principles is he or she teaching? How do these principles apply to my elders quorum or Relief Society?
· What scriptures did the speaker use to support his or her message?
· What questions could I ask that would help members ponder and apply the teachings in the message? What questions will help them see the relevance of these teachings in their lives, in their families, and in the Lord’s work?
· What can I do to invite the Spirit into our meeting? What could I use to enhance the discussion (including stories, analogies, music, or artwork)?
· How might I help members feel the desire to act on invitations the speaker made?
The music at general conference is provided by The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square as well as other Church choirs. The congregation also joins in singing hymns. The music is typically in English.
