Stake Disability Specialist

The stake disability specialist plays a vital role in ensuring that all youth, including those with disabilities, have a meaningful and inclusive experience at FSY conferences. They work closely with ward disability specialists and other leaders to identify and address the needs of participants requiring accommodation.

Timeline of Responsibilities


October through May: Familiarize Accessibility Options

  • Be familiar with the accessibility and the virtual options available. See the resources below for both. With stake or ward disability specialists, identify youth with dietary, disability, medical, or other needs that may require accommodations.

Late Winter or Early Spring of the Year Attending FSY: Leader Collaboration

  • Work with stake leaders to ensure that all accommodation needs are met for the stake pre-FSY activity.

February through May: ASL Accommodations Arrangement

  • American Sign Language (ASL) sessions take place each year in Utah. Ensure that all necessary accommodations are identified and arranged in collaboration with the ward disability specialist for youth attending this session. Please note that travel to and from this session will be reimbursed for most youth.

No less than 30 days before a given session: Accommodations Confirmation

  • Work with the ward disability specialist, parents, and youth to ensure all necessary accommodations are identified and arranged no less than 30 days before the session.

Following FSY: Post-FSY Activity Planning

  • Work with the stake leaders to ensure that all accommodation needs are met for the stake post-FSY activity.

Ward Disability Specialists

  • Collaborate closely to identify and address the needs of participants requiring accommodation. Work with them to plan accommodations for the pre- and post-FSY activities (see Ward Disability Specialists).

Stake Young Women and Stake Young Men Presidents

Stake FSY Representative

  • Support them with registration and accommodation questions they might have as they help youth and leaders with registration (see Stake FSY Representative).
