The Book of Mormon and the Bible Are God’s Word
The Book of Mormon and the Bible teach us about God’s plan and testify of Jesus Christ.
The Book of Mormon Is the Word of God
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints value the Bible and the Book of Mormon as witnesses of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is a divinely inspired record, like the Bible, compiled by ancient prophets. Studying both books can provide inspiration, insight, and guidance.
What Is the Book of Mormon About?
It begins with an account of a prophet named Lehi. God warned him in about 600 BC that Jerusalem would be destroyed. Lehi and his wife, Sariah, were led by the Spirit of God to bring their family across the ocean.
Their descendants eventually grew to become two nations, known as the Nephites and Lamanites. Their accounts in the Book of Mormon describe faith in God, God’s mercy for all His children, and warnings against sin.
The pinnacle event of the Book of Mormon is the Savior’s visit to His followers in the Americas after His death and Resurrection. This visit fulfilled His teaching in Jerusalem:
Other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice.
After Jesus Christ taught His doctrine and established His Church in the Americas, the people lived in peace and righteousness for several generations.
Eventually, the people fell into war and wickedness, and the Nephites were destroyed. One of the last surviving Nephites, Mormon, compiled Nephite records into what would be known in modern times as the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ.
Since then, 192 million copies of the Book of Mormon have been printed, and it has been translated into 115 languages. The Book of Mormon has inspired millions to become more devoted followers of Jesus Christ. It can inspire you too.

Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world. His sacrifice was for all of us. By following Him, we can find peace, hope, and forgiveness.
The Bible
“He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:3–5 ).
The Book of Mormon
“And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.
“And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities” (Alma 7:11–12 ).
