Weihungsgebet

Salt-Lake-Tempel, 21. Mai 1963

Our Heavenly and Eternal Father, we have assembled this morning with humble hearts and contrite spirits in this, Thy House, built to Thy Name and Glory, for the purpose of expressing appreciation and paying tribute and appreciation to the pioneers who settled in Utah in 1847, who soon afterwards began building this Temple, paying tribute to the hundreds of faithful men who hauled the rocks and helped lay the foundations, who built the walls, the architects who drew the plans and followed the plan drawn by the great architect and his associates, and who have built so well.

We invoke Thy blessing upon them; we remember them and honor their memories, and we pay tribute to the excellence of the builders, the masterful workmanship that has been manifest throughout this building. Bless and sanctify their labors. They have all gone to their reward and each has received from Thee, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant: . . . enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." (Matthew 25:21)

And now we pay tribute to those men in this and other generations who have cleansed where it needed cleansing, who have made strong timbers that have weakened through age, and present now an added structure built upon the foundation of the pioneers, who have replaced timbers that have stood through the years. And we present to you now a remodeled, redecorated Temple of the Most High, but we have done our best in making it clean and wholesome and beautiful for Thee.

We pray Thee to bless the workmen who have labored faithfully and diligently in bringing about this renovation. We pray Thee to bless the decorators who have so tastefully and beautifully handled the curtains, painted the walls and doors, decorated each room, even the altars where we kneel and make covenants before Thee, our God and Father. Wilt Thou accept of these improvements and wilt Thou bless them.

Our Father, as Thy servants, we dedicate all additions, all curtains, all the replacements, all foundation timbers, all walls, doors, and every addition made, the elevator that has been placed that was not previously here, but the preparation for which was made by the pioneers of old. Accept all of these improvements and additions. Let Thy blessings attend them for we dedicate and set them apart for the purpose for which they have been installed, that the purpose of the Temple of the Most High might be continued without interruption and that Thy favor and blessing for the ordinances herein, covenants made, and all are for Thy glory and the establishment of Thy Kingdom upon earth as it is done in Heaven.

Bless the President of this Temple and his associates and all who are associated with them in washing and anointing, in giving covenants and blessings, in ordaining to the Priesthood, all who participate in any particular in marriages, in work for the dead, and all phases of Temple work. Bless each and every one according to his or her duty. May he or she perform it faithfully and well before Thee and Thy satisfaction and glory.

This dedication, this prayer we invoke at Thy hands in the name of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. Amen.
