Overview

King David and his son Solomon both began their leadership of Israel relying on the Lord, and both were given His great blessings. Tragically, David’s decisions turned him away from the Lord and cost him his exaltation. In the first years of his reign, King Solomon’s humble desire to have the Lord’s wisdom, guidance, and blessings qualified him to build the temple, the house of the Lord.

seminary iconInvite learners to live what they are learning. As students learn the Savior’s gospel, the Holy Ghost can help them recognize adjustments they need to make. Invitations to review the goals they have set previously can also help students see how they are progressing and make needed corrections. An example of how to do this can be found in Lesson 80: “Assess Your Learning 5.”

For more on how the Savior did this, see the section “The Savior Invited Others to Live What He Taught” (Teaching in the Savior’s Way, 26).

Prepare to teach

The following information provides you with ideas of what you may need to prepare in advance for each lesson.

2 Samuel 11–12

Lesson purpose: To help students recognize that they cannot hide their sins from the Lord, but they can turn to Him to overcome temptation.

  • Student preparation: Invite students to make a list of some of the lies Satan uses to tempt us to sin (for example, students could review 2 Nephi 28:6–9, 20–22). Then invite them to ponder how truths taught in the gospel of Jesus Christ help us turn to the Lord when we face temptation.
