Exodus 1–6

Overview

After Joseph’s death, the Israelites became slaves to the Egyptians. The Lord heard their cries and called Moses to deliver them. God promised to strengthen Moses and give him the words he should speak.

The Savior was always ready to respond to the needs of learners. Your students come to you from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances. Striving to meet the needs of your students can help you teach like the Savior. Prepare to teach

The following information provides you with ideas of what you may need to prepare in advance for each lesson.

Exodus 1

Lesson purpose: To help students desire to put God above other pressures.

  • Student preparation: Consider inviting students to ask a family member or friend how they have seen God bless them for following Him rather than others.

  • Content to display: Self-evaluation statements at beginning of lesson; questions students will answer in their study journals at the end of the lesson

Exodus 2–4

Lesson purpose: To help students more fully incorporate the Lord’s words through His prophets into their lives.

  • Student preparation: Invite students to review recent teachings from the prophet. Then invite them to discuss with a family member or friend how following the prophet’s teachings has blessed their lives.

Exodus 5–6

Lesson purpose: To help students recognize that the Lord’s promises can motivate them to do His will, regardless of the immediate outcome.

  • Student preparation: Invite students to come to class prepared to share their answers to the following question: Does following Jesus Christ make your life easier or harder?
