Walking on the Water
Faith overcomes fear
Jesus wanted some time alone to pray. He sent His disciples in a boat to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. Jesus went to pray on a mountain.
That night, the wind was strong, and the waves were big. Jesus’s disciples worked hard all night trying to get the boat to the other side of the sea.
When the night was almost over, the disciples saw someone walking toward them on the water. They thought it was a ghost, and they were afraid. It wasn’t a ghost; it was Jesus! He called to them, “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.”
Peter asked Jesus to invite him to come to Him on the water. Jesus said, “Come!” Peter got out of the boat and started walking on the water, just like Jesus!
But when Peter saw the strong wind and big waves, he was frightened. He started to sink into the water. He called out to Jesus, “Lord, save me.”
Jesus reached out and caught Peter. He asked Peter why he doubted instead of trusting Him more.
When Jesus and Peter got back in the boat, the wind stopped. The disciples were amazed by what had happened. They knew that Jesus was truly the Son of God, and they worshipped him.
