“Babies,” Friend, Sept. 1995, 29

Babies

By Juliana Lewis

All grown-ups once were little.

Giraffes were short, then tall.

At one time even hippos

Were just a little small.

Tiny fleas were tinier

Before they got grown up.

Cats were kittens for a while;

A dog was once a pup.

Kingly lions grew from cubs.

There’re many more to add,

For all of us were babies once,

Even Mom and Dad.
