  • 1821 (age 14) Works as a miller

  • 1833 (age 26) Is baptized

  • 1834–36 (age 2729) Serves a mission to the Southern States

  • 1837 (age 30) Marries Phoebe Carter

  • 1837–38 (age 3031) Serves a mission to the Eastern States and the Fox Islands

  • 1839 (age 32) Is ordained an Apostle

  • 1839–41 (age 3234) Serves a mission to Great Britain

  • 1842 (age 35) Serves as business manager for the Times and Seasons

  • 1844–46 (age 3739) Serves as president of the European Mission

  • 1848–50 (age 4143) Presides over the Church in the Eastern States

  • 1856 (age 49) Is appointed Church historian

  • 1877 (age 70) Becomes president of the St. George Temple

  • 1879 (age 72) While in exile, does missionary work among the Indians

  • 1887 (age 80) At the death of John Taylor, becomes the leader of the Church as President of the Quorum of the Twelve
