Institute Graduation Requirements
To qualify for Institute graduation, students must complete the following:
- Complete 14 total credits of institute courses
- Four Cornerstone courses (8 total credits)
- Elective courses (6 additional credits)
- Receive an ecclesiastical endorsement from your church leader
- Rel 200: The Eternal Family (2 credits)
- Rel 225: Foundations of the Restoration (2 credits)
- Rel 250: Jesus Christ and His Everlasting Gospel (2 credits)
- Rel 275: Teachings and Doctrine of the Book of Mormon
Six additional elective credits are required for graduation. The following is a list of commonly offered elective courses:
- Rel 121: Book of Mormon – 1 Nephi–Alma 29 (2 credits)
- Rel 122: Book of Mormon – Alma 30–Moroni 10 (2 credits)
- Rel 130: Missionary Preparation (2 credits)
- Rel 150: The Gospel and the Productive Life (2 credits)
- Rel 211: New Testament – Matthew–John (2 credits)
- Rel 212: New Testament – Acts–Revelation (2 credits)
- Rel 215: Scripture Study––The Power of the Word (2 credits)
- Rel 280: Answering My Gospel Questions (2 credits)
- Rel 290: The Divine Gift of Forgiveness (2 credits)
- Rel 301: Old Testament – Genesis–2 Samuel (2 credits)
- Rel 312: Old Testament – 1 Kings–Malachi (2 credits)
- Rel 324: Doctrine and Covenants – Sections 1-76 (2 credits)
- Rel 325: Doctrine and Covenants – Sections 77–138 (2 credits)
- Rel 327: Pearl of Great Price (2 credits)
- Rel 333: Teachings of the Living Prophets (2 credits)
- Rel 341: Latter-day Saint History – 1815–1846 (2 credits)
- Rel 342: Latter-day Saint History – Brigham Young –Lorenzo Snow (2 credits)
- Rel 343: Latter-day Saint History – Joseph F. Smith–Present (2 credits)
- Rel 390R*: Locally designed courses (1–2 credits)
- Rel 471: Teaching Seminary – Preservice (2 credits)
- Other elective courses not listed above (1–2 credits)
*Note: 390R courses with different titles are counted as separate classes toward graduation.

Receiving Course Credit
To complete a course, students must satisfy requirements for attendance (minimum 75%), assigned course readings, and the Elevate Learning Experience. Opportunities for makeup work are provided for students who have not met these three requirements. Speak with your local institute instructor to learn about options for makeup work.

Ecclesiastical Endorsement
An ecclesiastical endorsement from the student’s bishop or branch president is required for the Institute of Religion Diploma. Those who are not members of the Church may also be cleared for worthiness by the bishop or branch president responsible for the area in which they live or by the clergy of their own faith.

Transferring Credit
Most institute course credits can be transferred for religion credit at BYU, BYU-Idaho, BYU-Hawaii, or Ensign College.
Complete the following steps to request a credit transfer:
1. Go to myinstitute.ChurchofJesusChrist.org
2. Choose "Progress" in the menu.
- This will show what institute classes are taken for credit.
- Click the button that reads "Request transfer credit" (see below).
- When you click this, you choose the school you want to transfer the credit to and then hit "Send Request".
