The painting portrays, in the setting of a stable the reclining Mary holding the Christ Chiild shortly after his birth.  Joseph looks on holding cloth in his hand.  There is tender interaction.  To the right a donkey eats straw and several vessels are visible.  To the left is a woven purse-basket and a hay loft.  Light and shade bathe the scene.  Signed Walter Rane on the lower right.  The paitnign was created using live models, objects and the real environment of a barn.  The title of the paintig derives from scriptures found in 1 Nephi 11:14-21 of the Book of Mormon, where Nephi visualizes the Virgin Mary with her son, the Savior.
