Returning home after a heated meeting with Mormons, a delegation of Jackson County residents boarded a ferry to cross the Missouri River. When the overloaded flatboat capsized, all three ferry men and two of the eight passengers drowned. Nineteenth-century Mormons assumed that these men intended to organize an attack on Zion's Camp. Many believed, as did Christensen, that this incident was divine retribution for those who fought against the Saints. Christensen depicts a stormy sky and turbulent waters to surround and isolate the men in their desperate situation. Painting number 6 of the 23 paintings in the "Mormon Panorama" series.
